ISOLATION OF ENDOPHYTES FUNGI FROM PROSOPIS JULIFLORA LEAVES
Keywords:
Mesquite, Endophyte Fungi, Alternaria Alternata, Aspergillus Nidulans, Aspergillus Sydowii, and Trichoderma HarzianumAbstract
Prosopis juliflora (commonly known as mesquite) belongs to fabaceae family. It is a thorny evergreen tree with a large, flat-topped crown and open canopy; this report aimed to investigate the isolation of endophyte fungi from Prosopis juliflora leaves, a hardy leguminous shrub known for its adaptability to arid environments. The research explored the ecological and economic significance of Prosopis juliflora and the roles played by endophyte fungi in plant’s health and ecology and to lay the foundation for exploring their functional roles and bioactive potential. Endophyte fungi are microorganisms that colonize the internal tissues of living. These fungi enhance host resistance against abiotic stress and disease by producing various bioactive.Notable fungi, including Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus nidulans, Aspergillus sydowii, and Trichoderma harzianum, were isolated and characterized from mesquite’s leaves. The study highlights the diverse presence of endophyte fungi, indicating potential contributions to nutrient uptake, stress tolerance, and disease resistance. This research provides future prospectives for a deeper exploration of the specific roles of identified fungi, particularly Trichoderma harzianum and Aspergillus nidulans, providing valuable insights for ecological studies and potential agricultural applications. Overall, the study underscores the significance of endophyte fungi in supporting the resilience and vitality of Prosopis juliflora in various environments.
