A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF BABA MUHAMMAD YAHYA KHAN’S “PIYA RANG KALA” IN THE LIGHT OF THE ESSENTIALS OF MYSTICISM

Abstract

This study analyses the essentials of mysticism and mystical characters in “Piya Rang Kala” (2011), written by a Pakistani Sufi writer Baba Muhammad Yahya Khan and translated in English Language by Ehsan Elahi Ehsan. For the critical analysis of discovering the main essentials of mysticism, this research takes the support from the theory of mysticism and its essentials are  proposed by Jethmal  Prasram Gulraj given in his book “Sind and its Sufis” (2016). This study explores five major essentials of mysticism e.g., purity, light, love, isolation and spirituality and five characters that foreground these essentials including Kaga, Aunt, Baba Rehmat Sain, Headman and Nasibo Bibi. The method of analysis has been conducted through the process of textual analysis of non-empirical research design followed by the technique of close reading. The study concludes that the essentials of mysticism in “Piya Rang Kala” are the basic fundamentals of the book and an in-depth understanding of mysticism and its essentials that would facilitate its readers, scholars and academies in the field of mysticism in modern Pakistani literature.
