Abstract

Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) represents a transformative advancement in construction materials, characterized by exceptional compressive strengths exceeding 150 MPa, superior durability, and enhanced ductility through fiber reinforcement. This comprehensive review synthesizes current peer-reviewed literature on UHPC's material characteristics, structural applications, and practical implementation challenges. UHPC is a cementitious composite combining high-strength concrete matrix and fiber reinforcement, recognized for its excellent mechanical properties and durability. [1] The material offers unparalleled strength, durability, and sustainability, with recent innovations including multifunctional properties such as self-heating, self-sensing, self-luminescence, and superhydrophobicity, alongside advances in nanotechnology. [2] UHPC exhibits superior performance in mechanical behavior, stress-strain relations, cracking behavior, compressive, tensile, and shear strengths, with enhanced durability and long-term performance characteristics. [3] Material composition involves optimized binder systems, fine aggregates, fiber reinforcement, and supplementary cementitious materials. Key advantages include minimized cross-sectional dimensions of structural elements, long-span capabilities, reduced variation, creep, and drying shrinkage compared to conventional concrete. [4] However, significant challenges persist: higher initial costs, lack of contractor experience, and absence of widely accepted design provisions currently limit large-scale field applicability. [5] This review integrates findings across material design, mechanical performance, durability assessment, structural applications, and construction methodology to establish a knowledge foundation for engineers and researchers advancing UHPC adoption in modern infrastructure
