Abstract

This research study is an inquiry into the transformation of Baloch middle class in transforming the politics of Balochistan amid the dominance of tribal elites and a patronage system of politics. Traditionally, Balochistan has largely been ruled by tribal sardars and feudal elites that have dominated political power and have tended to weaken democratic regimes and have reproduced marginalization and lacked incentive to meritocracy in political leadership. But a new middle section of conscious, educated, and more urban-based Baloch, students, professionals, civil servants journalists suggest a paradigm change. This is not merely a class that is challenging the authenticity of the traditional power structures but also promoting human rights and socio-economic rights, in the form of qualitative interview and secondary data account of new political voices of non-tribal origin, the paper identifies the shrinking gap between the established elites and the ambitions of the young, modern Baloch population. It suggests that the Baloch middle-class is slowly gaining voices on the albeit tribal dominance via civil society mobilization, online activity, non-tribal and independent movements organizations such as the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), and mobilization around a specific cause or set of concerns. The study analyzes the interplay between traditional power structures and emerging political aspirations, highlighting both the tensions and possibilities. Ultimately, the paper argues that the Baloch middle class represents a vital force for democratization, social reform, and constructive engagement. Their inclusion in political processes can foster a more representative, stable, and participatory political order in Balochistan—benefiting not only the province but also contributing positively to national cohesion and development.
