Ash gourd (Cucurbita moschata) is a valuable cucurbit grown for its nutritional, medicinal, and commercial benefits. Optimizing its yield is essential, especially in regions like Pakistan where year-round vegetable availability is limited. This study investigated the effects of gibberellic acid (GA₃) and boron application on the growth and yield of ash gourd. Research work was conducted in RCBD with three replications at Ghazi University, Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab, Pakistan, from November 2022 to March 2023. Review of previous research and experimental trials indicated that GA₃ significantly promotes vegetative growth, notably increasing vine length, number of leaves, and size of fruit due to enhanced cell elongation and division. Boron supplementation was shown to improve flowering, fruit set, and fruit development, contributing to both the quantity and quality of the harvest. Combined or sequential application of GA₃ and boron resulted in increased fruit number, weight, and overall yield compared to untreated controls. However, responses varied based on genotype, method, and timing of application. The findings suggest that integrating GA₃ and boron into ash gourd cultivation protocols can effectively boost yield and quality, but further research is recommended to refine application rates and timings. Overall, judicious use of plant growth regulators and micronutrients holds promise for maximizing productivity and profitability for ash gourd growers.
